The Lord Equips the Called

Written by Leslie Kiriakos

Scripture:

Numbers 1:5

“These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur.”

Observation:

The Lord gave Moses a huge task… to take a census of the people and to count the number of men from each clan over 20 years old. He was to identify the men able to serve in the military.

It turned out to be over 600,000 men! That’s a lot of counting, and they didn’t have calculators or computers back then; there were no spreadsheets or Google Sheets with formulas to assist.

The good news – The Lord set up Moses for success. He gave Moses the names of the men who were to come alongside him to execute the assignment. He actually listed out all the names of the men from each tribe.

Application:

What a good God we serve! He never calls us to something without equipping us for the task. The Lord’s intention is for us to work together as a team. “He fits us alongside others with a similar assignment and calls us a family, a team… the Church.” (Cordeiro, 2022, p. 26).

Doing things together in community is the Lord’s heart and intention for us. That’s what He did for Moses—He gave Moses a team to help him with his assignment.

It’s important to note where Moses was when the Lord gave him the names of the men to help him. Moses was in the Tent of Meeting—in the presence of the Lord.

In order for Moses to hear the Lord, he had to be still before his God!

I know for me… it’s not easy to be still. That’s something I struggle with. My ADHD kicks in, and I get distracted easily. But it is critical for me to take time to sit at the Lord’s feet every day and to pray without ceasing. I need to guard against my human nature, which tells me to do things in my own strength.

The bigger the assignment, the more I need to seek His face! The truth is that I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me. Out of His great love for us all, He equips and leads His children.

Prayer:

Thank you, Jesus, for calling me to New Hope Christian College and New Hope West. It is a blessing to serve Your people. Thank You for surrounding me with amazing friends and co-laborers in Christ. I’m so grateful that we are not meant to stand alone.

Forgive me when I get ahead of You. Help me to hear Your voice above all others and to be in step with Your leading. I pray that my life leaves an eternal impact for Jesus, my Lord and Savior.
