In a world filled with noise, stress, and constant movement, finding a moment of stillness to connect with God and each other is essential. That’s why I felt compelled to structure this devotional time—to create a space where scripture, prayer, and community could come together in a meaningful way.
The foundation of this devotional is Psalm 23, a passage that reminds us of God’s presence, provision, and peace. By grounding our time in this scripture, we ensure that our prayers are rooted in truth and that we are reminded of His steadfast care.
Devotional Structure
1. Start Together
• Brief introduction: What’s on my heart
• Read Psalm 23 aloud to the group (5-10 min)
2. Break into Small Groups
• Groups of 3-4 (boys/girls separate)
• Go through prepared prompts (5 min)
• Read Psalm 23 together again
• Pause for a full minute of silence and reflection
3. Prayer Rounds
• Round 1: Thanksgiving – Each person prays for things they are grateful for (5 min)
• Read Psalm 23 again
• Round 2: Change – What is God asking you to change? Pray for the person next to you (5 min)
• Read Psalm 23 again in groups
• Round 3: Fear – What fears are weighing on you? Pray over those fears (10 min)
4. Personal Reflection
• 15 minutes for journaling/devotional time on Psalm 23
• Reflect on prayer requests, thoughts, and personal takeaways
The Heart Behind This Devotional
Everyone needs prayer, whether they realize it or not. This structure gives people a foundation in scripture and an opportunity to connect deeply with God and each other. Prayer isn’t just about personal requests; it’s about uplifting one another in community, sharing struggles and victories, and being reminded that we are not alone.
Students, in particular, face constant stress and anxiety. Providing a quiet, structured, and calming environment can help ease those feelings and give them a moment of peace. By creating this space, my hope is that they leave feeling lighter, encouraged, and more grounded in God’s presence.
In the end, this devotional is more than just a structured time of prayer—it’s a reminder that God is our shepherd, we lack nothing, and He is with us in every season.
