Boldness in the Face of Opposition

S.O.A.P Devotional from February 11, 2025

Scripture

“One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.’ So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the Word of God.” – Acts 18:9-11 (NIV)

Observation

Paul faced great opposition while preaching in Corinth. He was discouraged and ready to turn his focus away from the Jews to the Gentiles. However, God reassured him through a vision, telling him not to be afraid and to continue speaking boldly. God’s promise of protection and His purpose in the city encouraged Paul to stay for a year and a half, faithfully teaching the Word. Initially, it may seem like God was saying there were people to physically protect Paul, but in reality, He was revealing that there were many in the city who needed salvation and would come to faith.

Application

Like Paul, we may feel discouraged when facing opposition in our faith journey. We may even question whether we should continue in certain places or situations. But God calls us to remain faithful, trusting that He is with us and has a greater purpose beyond what we can see. Just as He had “many people in the city,” there are people in our lives who need to hear the truth of the Gospel. Instead of retreating in fear, we should stand firm, knowing that God’s plan is greater than our challenges.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and encouragement when I feel discouraged. Help me to trust in Your plans and boldly share Your Word, knowing that You are always with me. Give me the strength to persevere, even in difficult situations, and remind me that there are people around me who need to know You. Use me to bring them closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
