Hoedown Throwdon
This year, NHCC Oregon put a twist on an old classic! Held in President Wayne Cordeiro’s barn, the second annual Hoe-Down Throwdown was on Saturday, November 12th at 6:30pm.
The theme was not just Cowboys, but a genuine throwdown, Cowboys vs. Superheroes!
It was an amazing time seeing so many people having fun while spending time together! The barn was actually separated right down the middle with a line of blue tape giving the feel of an actual competition. On the Superheroes’ side, there was a city landscape with gold stars to fill the sky as a photo area, and an excellent selection of “Superhero Food” ranging from Superhero Subs to Secret Identity Bars (7 Layer Bars) for dessert. On the Cowboy side was the stage, made out of hay (grown and baled on President Cordeiro’s property!), a cowboy photo area, and their very own selection of food. On the Cowboy’s food table was Pa’s Famous Fried Chicken and Cornbread, complete with Cow Pie Cookies (No Bakes) for dessert!
The entire event was centered around everyone having a great time, dressing up, and dancing like crazy! ASB taught several dances including the Cotton Eye Joe, Cupid Shuffle, and line dancing to Boot Scootin’ Boogie! It was a huge success and completely fits the goals that ASB has set this year for creating unity among the student body! The best thing was seeing students having a great time and coming out of their shells!
