Dream Releaser Statue Installation

On Wednesday, February 15, New Hope Christian College Oregon – (NHCC) dedicated the Dream Releaser statue. The artist, Dan Chen, created the piece based on Chancellor Wayne Cordeiro’s book, “The Dream Releasers.” Cordeiro’s childhood experience of freeing a bamboo caged bird in Japan and seeing its joy as it took flight emblazed in him the desire to cooperate with God in His plan to tap on the cages of young hearts and encourage the release of their dreams. Cordeiro believes that in the heart of every person is a God-sized dream of what we can be for the kingdom of God.

At a pre-dedication Summons, Chancellor Cordeiro reminded NHCC’s students, staff and faculty of 1 Samuel 7 where Samuel erected a stone at Ebenezer to commemorate Israel’s victory over the Philistines – a victory won at the very place where she’d been defeated some twenty years earlier. He then quoted a line from the famous hymn, Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing, “Here I raise my Ebenezer,” as a reminder that we too are to “raise our Ebenezer” – that is, to remember to rely on the Lord and to remind ourselves how He will be faithful to work on our behalf as a He did Israel’s.

The Dream Releaser statue is also a reminder for our students of their calling, to study hard and to finish well. It will therefore not only beautify the campus as an exceptional art piece, but serve as a focal point to remind all the students, faculty and staff of the mission of the College to discover, develop and deploy the dreams that God has placed in each one of us.
