EUGENE< ORE - Once again the New Hope Christian College Men’s Basketball team provided the Rexius Events Center with a memorable moment. It began with a 35-foot runner by guard Corey Gantt at the close of the first half, to cut an early William Jessup lead (23-20) to three at the break, as the Deacons (2-12) started the night 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Gantt’s three ignited a deluge of trey balls as NHCC, hitting two of NHCC’s five second-half three point field goals, finish with nine points on the night. The Deacons were 19-of-27 from the charity stripe as NHCC downed the Warriors 52-47 in non-conference play Thursday night.
Center Forest Stolk scored a game-high 17 points and was tied for a game-high 15 rebounds. WJU countered with guard Marqus Crawford’s second consecutive double-double (12 points, 15 boards). NHCC forward Harley Turner poured in 12 points and iced the victory with a pair of free throws inside of 16 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the win.
The Deacons will take the next week off in preparation of Finals Week and return to the court on December 19th, where NHCC will close out the current three-game stand vs. Puget Sound, at the REX for a scheduled 7pm start.
