Eugene, Ore – Guard Quincy Alexander provided the heroics on Friday night, at the Rexius Events Center, as the junior from Detroit, Michigan, sunk a three-point shot with two-tenths of a second remaining; as the New Hope Christian College Deacons (1-6) upset #10-ranked Eastern Oregon 77-76. The Mountaineers (6-1) appeared to have the game iced away, as Travares Peterson hit a shot in traffic with five seconds remaining to give EOU a 76-74 edge. Interior play from a pair of freshman sparked NHCC to an early 13-8 advantage, as forward Harley Turner and center Forest Stolk paced the Deacons scoring 17 points a piece.
Stolk scored a double-double by pulling down 15 rebounds and guard Corey Gantt and Alexander scored 16 points each (Gant and Alexander combined to shoot 7-of-12 from beyond the arc).
Peterson led the Mountaineers with 18 points and six rebounds and Trent Ross and Jeff Ranstrom scored 12 points a piece.
The Deacons return to the Rexius Events Center, Tuesday night and conclude a four-game homestand against Warner Pacific, with a scheduled start of 7 pm.
